Solid Energy has investigated other methods with potential to harness the energy within Waikato's deep coal seams, such as underground coal gasification and coal seam gas extraction, and to upgrade Southland's large lignite deposits, through briquetting and gasification to provide feedstock for the manufacture of products such as urea fertiliser and transport fuel.
